Artist Statement:
My practice is grounded in the layering of texture, color, and movement, drawing
inspiration from the natural world—particularly florals—as seen through an imaginative, abstract lens. Daily walks to my studio spark a quiet connection to nature, where details like tangled vines, shifting light and shadows, or a burst of unexpected colorful bloom, become points of entry into the work.
Living between urban and rural environments all my life has shaped my visual
language. The work begins with a playful layer, building up texture, sometimes using
the sharp lines of paper edges to create a tension with the organic natural forms that grow and emerge. The layered surfaces evoke both density and openness and the
subjects merge with the landscapes, reminding us of how we are all connected. Each
piece is a response to a memory, of place and sensation.
Florals, for me, are not literal but dreamlike: they hold emotion, rhythm, and movement. I use them to explore transformation and contradiction—softness and structure, chaos and calm. The process is intuitive and physical, allowing the work to evolve in a conversation with materials and deep emotions. In this layered, in-between space, I seek to create moments that feel familiar yet otherworldly—where the viewer is invited to pause, look closer, and perhaps sense the wildness beneath the surface.
